Born in Belfort on July 23, 1975, and coming from a musical family, Céline Bonacina began music at the age of seven, following a classical curriculum in various conservatories (Belfort, Besançon, Paris).
As a teenager, she developed a passion for jazz and improvised music.
From 1996 to 1998, during her years in Paris, she specialized in the baritone saxophone within big bands and developed a strong soloist style. Holder of the CA in saxophone and the DE in jazz, she then left for Réunion Island, where she taught at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional for seven years.
In 2005, back in France, she founded the Céline Bonacina Trio, an ensemble open to various configurations, ranging from trio + guests to sixty musicians on stage (with the Megapulse Orchestra). During the recording of her second album Way of Life, she invited guitarist Nguyên Lê, a collaboration that attracted the ACT label, which also released Open Heart (2013).
She then created Crystal Rain (Cristal Records) with Gwilym Simcock (piano), Chris Jennings (double bass), and Asaf Sirkis (drums). In 2019, she released Fly Fly, an album blending groove, optimism, exotic colors (notably inspired by Réunion Island) and voice.
She has performed in numerous festivals and jazz clubs in France and internationally (United Kingdom, Syria, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Luxembourg, Norway, Sweden, Turkey, Hungary, New Zealand, Canada).
Alongside her stage career, she teaches classical and jazz saxophone at the CRD of Alençon and leads masterclasses on topics such as Indian Ocean rhythms or bridges between classical and jazz.
She has collaborated with Nguyên Lê, Andy Sheppard, Lars Danielsson, Michaël Wollny, Nils Landgren, Mino Cinelu, Michel Benita, Didier Levallet, Tineke Postma, Julien Lourau, Bojan Z, Terri Lyne Carrington, Rhoda Scott…
