How do I choose my JLV ligature?

The JLV ligature is available for soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones with ebonite (classical/jazz) and metal mouthpieces, as well as for Eb, Bb, and A, alto, and bass clarinets. Simply select your preferred instrument type, mouthpiece type, and finish on our product page: For Saxophones and Clarinets

Is the JLV Ligature compatible with synthetic reeds?

Yes. Synthetic reeds provide excellent stability and increase their longevity.

Is the ligature suitable for all types of mouthpieces?

Indeed, the ligature fits ebonite mouthpieces, whether classical or jazz style, as well as metal mouthpieces. It also fits perfectly with crystal clarinet mouthpieces.

For mouthpieces requiring specific dimensions, we can make custom adjustments by customizing the size of the strap.

When ordering, you can specify the mouthpiece model and brand in the "Information to send to the seller" section.

Can the JLV ligature be used with Otto Link mouthpieces?

The JLV ligature fits perfectly with Otto Link mouthpieces, whether made of ebonite or metal.

Thanks to the side screws, the band prevents contact with the mouthpiece, allowing the Otto Link mouthpiece to be raised without any compatibility issues.

We invite you to choose the JLV ligature based on your saxophone, the type of mouthpiece (ebonite or metal), and the finish you prefer.

Is the JLV ligature suitable for beginners?

The JLV ligature is suitable for both beginners and professionals. We met with teachers to ask for their opinion: they were quickly won over by this jewel, which makes it easier for their students to produce low and high notes.

Is the JLV ligature suitable for professionals?

Yes, the JLV ligature is also suitable for professionals.

It opens up new possibilities and allows them to achieve a finesse and power of sound they did not have without the ligature.

As the reed vibrates along its entire length, the harmonics are released, and the entire sound spectrum is enhanced.

Does the ligature adapt to left-handed players?

Yes. The ligature consists of two main parts: the base and the belt.

For left-handed players, simply unscrew the “base screw,” reverse its position, and screw it back in.

When placing your order, you can specify that you are left-handed in the “information to be transmitted to the seller” box so that we can customize it for you.

      Where is your ligature manufactured?

All parts of JLV products are manufactured, assembled, and shipped from France.

Where can you get the JLV Ligature in France or anywhere else in the world?

We invite you to consult the map of our partner stores in France and abroad to make your purchase directly from the shop of your choice.

How to choose the ligature finish?
      • Brushed: the sound is brighter.

      • Silver-plated: the sound is more mellow.

      • Black edition: the sound is punchier.

      • Gold-plated: the sound is warmer.

      • Rose gold-plated: the sound is more refined.

      • Platinum & gold-plated: the sound is richer in harmonics.

You can try and compare the different finishes at one of our partner stores.

If you buy online, you can order two finishes and return the one that suits you less within 14 days (offer reserved exclusively for deliveries within Europe).

What better way than trying the ligature comfortably at home to make your choice?

For saxophone, we recommend trying the gold-plated and the platinum & gold-plated.
For clarinet, we recommend trying the silver-plated and the platinum & gold-plated.

What materials are used to make the JLV ligature?

JLV ligatures are made of brass for the belt.

As for the base, it is made of bronze.

What does the JLV ligature provide?

The JLV ligature revolutionizes your playing: it unleashes the reed’s natural vibration, facilitates sound production across all registers, and offers unmatched tonal precision. Thanks to its patented design and 100% French manufacturing, it enhances harmonic richness, improves projection, and extends the lifespan of your reeds.

To learn more, visit the JLV Ligatures page.

Is the JLV ligature delivered with a mouthpiece covers?

The JLV mouthpiece covers is sold separately.

How to install the JLV ligature?

The JLV Ligature is a new ligature system, and its installation is indeed different from other ligatures.

A prior explanation is necessary, but you will quickly get the hang of it.

The placement of the JLV Ligature on the reed can make all the difference, even by just one millimeter. We invite you to consult the online user manual.

How do I maintain my JLV ligatures and mouthpiece covers?

Here’s the faithful translation without a break between the paragraphs:

We recommend maintaining your ligature once or twice a week with a microfiber cloth: slightly moisten one side for cleaning, then use the other side, dry, to wipe thoroughly.

Avoid any chemical product, even mild, as it could damage the plating or the tampography.

Is the ligature covered by a warranty?

Yes, you benefit from a lifetime warranty on all our ligatures.

What should I do if I lose a screw or a part of my ligature?

We offer a spare parts service.

Please contact us via the contact form, specifying your ligature model and the missing part.

Can I have my JLV ligature repaired?

Yes, if your ligature has a defect or an issue, please contact us for an evaluation.

Depending on the case, we will proceed with a repair or a replacement.

Can the ligature oxidize over time?

Our platings are designed to last, but like any metal, regular maintenance is necessary.

Avoid contact with water, clean with a dry microfiber cloth without using chemical products (even mild ones), and store your ligature in a dry place after each use.

Do JLV ligatures exist that are strictly identical?

Yes, some JLV ligatures are strictly identical.

They share the same design and model but are compatible with several different instruments.

      For example:

      • Baritone & bass saxophone (ebonite mouthpiece) = Bass & contrabass clarinet

      • Tenor saxophone (ebonite mouthpiece) = Alto clarinet & basset horn

      • Soprano saxophone (ebonite mouthpiece) = E♭ clarinet

These models are therefore interchangeable between the instruments listed, provided the mouthpiece type (ebonite or metal) is respected.

My mouthpiece does not match a standard size: which JLV ligature should I choose?

If your mouthpiece does not match a standard size, we invite you to contact us.

We can adjust the size of the ligature belt if necessary.

To guide you best, please specify:

      • whether your mouthpiece is smaller or larger than a standard size,

      • and which instrument model it is closest to, as well as the mouthpiece type (for example: ebonite or metal).

This will allow us to offer you the JLV ligature best suited to your setup.

Does the JLV ligature improve the lifespan of reeds?

Yes. Thanks to its patented design, the JLV ligature distributes pressure evenly on the reed without crushing it.

The reed vibrates more freely, which optimizes its performance and significantly extends its lifespan.

Many musicians find that they use up to twice fewer reeds: each reed remains effective for longer, and it becomes possible to play more reeds with greater sound stability.

What is the difference between a traditional ligature and a JLV ligature?

Our ligature is designed by a musician, for musicians. It features a patented design, is 100% made in France, and comes with a lifetime warranty. The JLV ligature applies optimized pressure on the reed’s ends, unlike traditional ligatures that compress the entire surface.

As a result, the reed vibrates fully, producing a richer sound, easier response, and more precise playing.

Can the JLV ligature be used to play in all musical styles (jazz, classical, marching band…)?

Yes. The JLV ligature is designed to release the reed’s harmonics and provide remarkable sound precision, regardless of the style.

Jazz, classical, wind ensemble, marching band… our users perform in every musical setting.

Who is the inventor of the JLV ligature?

Jean-Luc Vignaud, saxophonist and visionary inventor, is the creator of the JLV ligature.

Designed to meet the expectations of both professional and amateur musicians, it was awarded the Grand Prize of the President of the Republic at the 2013 Concours Lépine in Paris.

Will I feel a difference immediately with the JLV ligature?

Yes, in the vast majority of cases.

Thanks to its patented design that releases the reed’s natural vibration, the JLV ligature provides a smoother playing feel and an immediately richer sound.

Musicians often describe improved response in the low register, greater ease in the high register, and tonal consistency from the very first notes.

Why do I feel like I’m playing with less effort when using the JLV ligature?

The JLV ligature allows the reed to vibrate along its entire length without being compressed.

This freedom of vibration makes it easier to produce sound, reduces resistance, and makes playing feel more natural.

The result: less effort for a more powerful, precise, and stable sound.

It is this sense of freedom that gives the impression of “playing effortlessly.”

Can the JLV ligature help me if I lack power or projection?

Absolutely. By freeing the reed and optimizing the transmission of vibrations, the JLV ligature naturally amplifies sound projection.

It allows the sound to “come out” of the instrument with greater clarity, presence, and harmonic richness — without forcing and without changing your mouthpiece or your reed.

Does the JLV ligature reduce fatigue during long rehearsals?

Yes. By facilitating sound emission, the JLV ligature reduces the physical effort required to play.

Less tension in the air column, less strain in the lips and jaw: long rehearsals become more comfortable and less exhausting, while maintaining a stable and even sound.
