THE BIOGRAPHY OF SERGEY KOLESOV
Sergey Kolesov, a leading figure in classical saxophone, is the first Russian to have won the Grand Prize at the Adolphe Sax Competition. An acclaimed concert artist on five continents, he is also a pedagogue and artistic director of major international projects.
His playing, praised for its virtuosity and expressiveness, pushes the boundaries of the instrument.
➤ Sergey Kolesov, considered the greatest Russian saxophonist today, leads an intense international career as a concert artist and pedagogue across Europe, America, and Asia.
➤ In 2006, he became the first Russian musician in history to win the Grand Prize at the International Adolphe Sax Competition in Dinant (Belgium) and represented Russia again at the 2019 edition.
➤ An official Yamaha artist (Japan) and D’Addario artist (USA), he graduated from the Gnesin Academy of Music in the class of Margarita Shaposhnikova.
➤ Winner of numerous prestigious competitions, he notably received:
• 1st Prize – Salieri-Zinetti International Chamber Music Competition (Verona, 2010)
• 1st Prize – European Chamber Music Competition (Karlsruhe, 2012)
• Special “Saxiana” Prize – Paris International Saxophone Competition
➤ Acclaimed by critics, his performances have been described as “fantastic”, pushing the limits of classical saxophone and revealing an expressiveness close to the human voice.
➤ As a professor at Lomonosov Moscow State University and the Saint Petersburg State Conservatory, he trains numerous saxophonists who today hold major positions worldwide.
