THE BIOGRAPHY OF IÑAKI BERMÚDEZ

Iñaki Bermúdez, Basque classical saxophonist, leads an international career as a soloist and in chamber music, collaborating with prestigious orchestras and festivals.

Winner of numerous competitions, he stands out for his commitment to the composer–performer relationship and his varied repertoire. As a professor and D’Addario Woodwinds Artist, he inspires both on stage and in teaching.

Iñaki Bermúdez, born in Bilbao, is a young professional classical saxophonist with an international career as a soloist and in chamber music. Since 2019, he has been part of the D’Addario Woodwinds artist family.

 

He focuses his musical work on the relationship between composer and performer, seeking to express a musical vision faithful to the essence of the work and the intention of its creator.

 

Education: Graduated in classical saxophone from the Conservatory of Leioa (2013) with the highest distinction, he continued his studies at the Conservatori del Liceu of Barcelona with Albert Juliá, earning his advanced degree cum laude. He completed a Master in Performance and a postgraduate degree at the Koninklijk Conservatorium of Brussels with Simon Diricq.

 

Competitions: Winner and finalist of several international and national competitions, including the Classic Winds International Saxophone and Clarinet Competition (Tel Aviv), Gold Medal and jury’s congratulations at the 34th European Competition for Young Soloists (Luxembourg), Honorable Mention at the Jeunes Interprètes du Pays Basque Competition, and the Música als parcs Prize with the Internum Quartet.

 

Artistic career: Performed as soloist with the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra, the KCB Saxophone Ensemble, and the Conservatori Liceu Saxophone Ensemble. Concerts in prestigious venues such as BOZAR (Brussels), Teatro Arriaga (Bilbao), Palau de la Música (Barcelona), Cité de la Musique et de la Danse (Strasbourg), as well as in Denmark, Hungary, France, and the USA. Member of the JONC (National Youth Orchestra of Catalonia) and the Orquestra Supramúsica (Valencia). Participated in festivals such as the Liceu Sax Fest and the Festival de Musique Méditerranéenne (Corsica).

 

Invitations & collaborations: Guest artist at the Nordic Saxophone Festival (2019) for D’Addario Woodwinds. Currently a member of the Internum Quartet and the BSC – Belgian Saxophone Choir.

 

Teaching: Professor at the Conservatory of Leioa and at the BSC Academy (Adams Music Shop).

 

Support & creations: Supported by the Agustí Pedro i Pons Foundation, the Provincial Council of Bizkaia (Young Artists Program), and the New York Summer Music Festival. Several works have been composed for him, including Somni Abstracte and Introspecció (Miquel de Jorge), and Fantasia (Martí Brugue).
