Ferran Gorrea i Muñoz is a Spanish musician, saxophonist, and improviser, based in Zurich (Switzerland).
He presents a highly versatile profile, with strong commitment to contemporary music and composers of the current generation, while also integrating into his work the most renowned pieces of the traditional saxophone repertoire, as well as transcriptions ranging from the Baroque to the Romantic period.
Free improvisation also holds an important place in his artistic personality. Guided by the renowned percussionist and improviser Lucas Niggli, Ferran has developed his own musical language in this field.
An active chamber musician, he has been part of numerous ensembles such as the Zurich Saxophone Collective, 2.13 SAX, D’Addario Saxophone Ensemble, Slapsus Quartet, and Sigma Project Ensemble.
He has performed at festivals such as Zurich meets Seoul (South Korea), the 18th World Saxophone Congress (Croatia), the Mallorca Saxophone Festival (Spain), Ensems (Spain), and Sax & the City (Switzerland), as well as in prestigious venues such as Het Concertgebouw (Netherlands), Tonhalle Maag (Switzerland), and the Auditorio Nacional (Spain).
He has won the 1st Prize and a recognition award at the Contemporary Music Competition of the ZHdK (2019, 2018). Between 2017 and 2020, he was supported by the Valencian Institute of Culture (IVC). In 2016, with the Slapsus Quartet, he won the 1st Prize at the Juventudes Musicales de Ávila and Ciudad de Salamanca chamber music competitions.
Graduate of COSCyL (Salamanca) in 2017 with the Extraordinary End-of-Bachelor Prize, he obtained a Master of Arts in Musical Performance at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (2020) and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Music Pedagogy in the class of saxophonist and conductor Lars Mlekusch.
Since 2021, Ferran Gorrea has been a JLV Sound ambassador.
