THE BIOGRAPHY OF LUIS MARÍA GONZÁLEZ JIMÉNEZ

Luis María González Jiménez is a renowned Spanish saxophonist, winner of ten international competitions, and trained at the most prestigious European institutions.

Passionate about contemporary creation and pedagogy, he leads both an artistic and academic career between France and Spain.

He currently teaches at the CRD of Meudon and serves as solo saxophone at the Orchestra of the City of Almería.

Luis María González Jiménez began his studies with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance at the Conservatorio Superior de Música Rafael Orozco in Córdoba and at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Málaga under Álvaro Ariza, where he graduated with the highest distinction, summa cum laude. He pursued a Master’s degree in Music, Performance and Heritage at Université Paris-Saclay and the Conservatoire de Versailles (CRR-VGP) in the class of Vincent David, graduating with honors. In June 2021, he obtained his Advanced Diploma at the CRR de Versailles in the class of Nicolas Arsenijevic.

 

With his quartet, the Gaman Ensemble, he earned a Master’s degree in Chamber Music with the highest honors, unanimously awarded, at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (CNSMDP) under the direction of David Walter in 2022. He recently recorded his first album project with this ensemble at the Manuel de Falla Auditorium in Granada, under the IBS Classical label.

 

Winner of ten first prizes in international competitions, he has performed in prestigious venues such as the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York, the Salle Cortot, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Festival Radio France in Montpellier.

 

Passionate about contemporary creation, he collaborates with composers such as Félix Ibarrondo, Maël Bailly, Orlando Bass, and David Soley, who have dedicated several original works to him. He has also received support from numerous institutions, including the Institut Supérieur des Arts de Toulouse, Fondation de France, Legs Jabès, Marie Fournier Foundation, Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation, Université PSL, and Adami.

 

In addition to his artistic career, he is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Granada, where he is conducting research in neuropsychology and musicology. Deeply committed to supporting highly sensitive people (HSP), he is a member of the Spanish Association of Highly Sensitive Professionals (APAS) and follows the DOLCE pedagogy of Françoise Dorocq for specialized teaching. In 2023, he published a book on interpretation as a creative process in the saxophone repertoire with the Dykinson publishing house.

 

Currently enrolled in a Master’s degree in Saxophone Pedagogy at the CNSMDP (towards the Teaching Certificate – CA), Luis María González Jiménez is a professor of saxophone at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Départemental Marcel Dupré de Meudon in the Paris region and principal saxophonist of the Orquesta Ciudad de Almería (OCAL) in Andalusia.
