Mattia Tomat, born in 1993, began studying the saxophone at the age of 17.
After achieving a perfect score (100/100) on his scientific baccalaureate, he joined the Conservatorio Statale di Musica “Jacopo Tomadini” in Udine, Italy, under Fabrizio Paoletti.
Education and Degrees
During his undergraduate studies, Mattia was awarded two Erasmus+ scholarships:
➤ 2015–2016 – Advanced studies with Alfonso Padilla at the Conservatorio Superior de Música “Manuel Castillo” (Seville, Spain)
➤ 2016–2017 – Studies with Koryun Asatryan at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater (Munich, Germany)
He obtained his Bachelor’s degree from the Udine Conservatory in 2017 with the highest distinction and jury commendations.
He then completed a Master’s degree in saxophone at the Conservatorio “Girolamo Frescobaldi” in Ferrara under Marco Gerboni, graduating with honors in 2019.
The same year, he joined the CRR de Versailles and earned the Prix de Perfectionnement with Very Good Distinction in Nicolas Arsenijevic’s class. He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree at the same institution. In 2022, he passed the Italian State Competition, obtaining two Teaching Qualification Certificates for saxophone.
Masterclasses and Advanced Studies
Mattia has attended numerous masterclasses with internationally renowned saxophonists:
Vincent David, Jean-Marie Londeix, Alfonso Padilla, Nicolas Arsenijevic, Nikita Zimin, Jérôme Laran, Lars Mlekusch, Johan Thorell, as well as Italian pedagogues such as Alex Sebastianutto, MAC Saxophone Quartet, Marco Gerboni, Mauro Ciaccio, Federico Mondelci, and Massimo Mazzoni.
Artistic Career and Collaborations
A versatile saxophonist, Mattia performs both as a soloist and within chamber ensembles and orchestras:
➤ Quatuor Furendo (soprano saxophone), performing at festivals including Eventosax (Velletri, Rome) and the 34th Festival Internazionale di Musica (Portogruaro)
➤ Saxophone Ensemble of the Udine Conservatory, participating in Euromusic Festivals in Vienna (2013, 2017) and Esslingen (2015)
➤ Collaborations with numerous orchestras: Orchestra Filarmonici Friulani, Udine Conservatory Wind Orchestra, Seville Conservatory Wind Orchestra, Accademia Sinfonica, Orchestra La Macia, Orchestra Alpe Adria, and Orchestra d’Harmonie Anbima.
