Sara Zazo, Spanish saxophonist born in Madrid in 1989, began her studies at the Conservatoire de Badajoz, completing them with honors and top awards in Vicente Contador’s class (2010). She pursued advanced training in contemporary and chamber music at the Conservatoire Jacques Thibaud in Bordeaux (2010–2012) and obtained a Master in Performance (2015) and Master in Instrumental Pedagogy (2017) from the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne.
Award-winning and internationally recognized, Sara received the Fritz Gerber Award (2018), 2nd Prize Kiefer Hablitzel Stiftung (2016), and support from the Lyra, Max Jost, and Irène Dénéréaz Foundations.
As a versatile artist, she performs with prestigious orchestras such as the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Orchestre de Chambre de Genève, Lucerne Festival Academy, Orquesta del Palau de les Arts, and more, under renowned conductors including Riccardo Chailly, Matthias Pintscher, Sir Simon Rattle, Peter Eötvös, and Alan Gilbert.
Passionate about interdisciplinary projects, she collaborated with the 2b Company on the production “Giselle…”, performing a custom saxophone score by Luca Antignani across Switzerland, France, and Belgium, in venues like Elbphilharmonie, KKL Luzern, Victoria Hall (Geneva), La Seine Musicale, and Roulette Intermedium (New York).
Dedicated to contemporary music, she works with composers such as Simon Steen Andersen, Stefano Gervasoni, Georges Aperghis, Heinz Holliger, Olga Neuwirth, Stilianos Dimou, and Peter Eötvös, and attended the Darmstadt Ferienkurse (2016, 2018).
Sara is a committed educator, teaching masterclasses internationally at institutions like PESMD Bordeaux, University of Minnesota, Conservatoire de Birmingham, Melbourne Faculty of Music, and currently holds professorships at the Conservatoire de la Broye (since 2016) and the Conservatoire Jacques Thibaud (since 2023, CPES program).
Active in multiple ensembles, she is a member of Ensemble Rayuela, Duo Zazo–Moreno, Le Sax Consort, and co-founder of Ensemble Altera Inde, Quatuor IBSUD, and Trio ACUTE Sax, while also participating in Sinfonietta CONTAINER, a platform for contemporary creation.
Selmer Paris artist since 2018, Sara Zazo represents a new generation of saxophonists committed to musical creation and pedagogy on the international stage.
