Lan Meden is a classical saxophonist whose refined tone and meticulous interpretation shape his performances, both as a soloist and in chamber music ensembles, in Slovenia and internationally.
His work combines numerous artistic collaborations, deep exploration of classical and contemporary repertoire, and the creation of a distinctive musical voice through thoughtful programming.
An Exemplary Academic Journey
He began his musical training at the Fran Gerbič Music School in Cerknica, before continuing at the Ljubljana Music and Ballet Conservatory under the guidance of Lev Pupis and Jan Gričar.
He completed his undergraduate studies at the Private University of Music and Arts in Vienna, in the class of Michael Krenn, graduating with distinction in August 2022.
In autumn 2020, he participated in an exchange program at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, in the class of Joonatan Rautiola.
Since October 2022, he has been pursuing a master’s degree in saxophone at the Ljubljana Academy of Music, under Miha Rogina, while refining his artistry in international masterclasses with artists such as Claude Delangle, Arno Bornkamp, Vincent David, Lars Mlekusch, Asya Fateyeva, David Gauthier, and the Signum Saxophone Quartet, among others.
A Career Marked by Distinctions and Performances...
Winner of numerous national and international awards:
➤ 1st prize, gold medal, and special jury award at TEMSIG (2016)
➤ 1st prize at the Woodwind & Brass Competition in Varaždin (2016)
➤ 2nd prize at the European Saxophone Forum in Wrocław (2017)
In chamber music, with Duo Prospero, he won 2nd prize, a gold medal, and a special award for the best interpretation of a Slovenian work at TEMSIG (2018).
With the Philia Saxophone Quartet, he won Musica Juventutis, performing at the Schubert Hall of the Konzerthaus Vienna (2020/21 season).

He has performed at numerous Slovenian and international festivals: Solo e da Camera, Festival Ljubljana, Festival Lent, Nei Suoni dei Luoghi, and more.
A prestigious performer, he participated in the 18th World Saxophone Congress (Zagreb 2018) with the SOS Saxophone Orchestra, and performed at the Golden Hall of the Musikverein Vienna in tribute to Bernstein (2018).
In July 2022, he gave the world premiere of the Concerto for Alto Saxophone and String Orchestra by Karol Beffa, with the Camerata Masaot Wien.
In December 2023, he performed the Ballade by Frank Martin as a soloist with the FVG Orchestra (Italy).
Recognized for his academic excellence, he received the Škerjanec Prize (2019) and a scholarship from the Slovenian Ministry of Culture.
Since 2022, Lan has been an official JLV Ambassador.
