THE BIOGRAPHY OF ELISA URRESTARAZU CAPELLÂN

Spanish saxophonist with exceptional virtuosity, Elisa stands out for her eclectic repertoire and her commitment to contemporary creation.

Winner of numerous international competitions, she collaborates with prestigious orchestras and leads bold multidisciplinary projects.
An inspiring artist, combining innovation and musical excellence.

Born in 1987 in Málaga, Spain, Elisa trained at the Conservatory of Málaga, the University of Málaga (degree in pedagogy), and the Conservatoire Jacques Thibaud in Bordeaux with Marie-Bernadette Charrier.

 

There she earned her higher diploma in saxophone and received the prestigious “Music Málaga Foundation” Prize, awarded for the best academic record in her class.

 

As a high-level saxophonist, Elisa has won numerous national and international competitions:

A remarkable orchestral career

 

Recognized as an artist, Elisa collaborates as a saxophone soloist and orchestral member with prestigious ensembles:

She has performed on renowned stages such as the Teatro Cervantes and Teatro Echegaray in Málaga, Palacio Euskalduna in Bilbao, Auditorio Nacional de Madrid, Sala María Cristina in Málaga, and the Auditorium of Bordeaux.

 

A highlight of her career includes the world premiere of “Mercurial” for saxophone and orchestra by composer Eneko Vadillo, performed with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Málaga.

 

An engaged and innovative artist

 

Alongside her performance career, Elisa dedicates herself to teaching and mentorship.

 

Invited to give masterclasses in Spain and internationally (Málaga, Seville, Cartagena, Alicante, Trento, Valencia…), she currently teaches at the Professional Conservatory of Baza (Granada).

 

A multidisciplinary artist, she develops innovative projects combining music, dance, literature, electronics, and visual arts.

 

She has performed at emblematic venues such as the Fundación Juan March (Madrid), ADDA Alicante (CNDM), and Noches en los Jardines de los Reales Alcázares in Seville.

 

In 2020, she released her recording “Women Composers, Los seres del mar”, selected among the best albums of October by Ritmo Magazine.

 

In 2021, she created the project Ómicron XXI with guitarist Pilar Rius and launched the performance 4×2, a multidisciplinary show awarded the Málaga Artistic Production Prize 2020.

 

That same year, she presented the Swiss Composers program with pianist Cornelia Lenzin internationally.

 

A dedicated advocate of contemporary creation, Elisa collaborates with today’s composers such as Eneko Vadillo, Arturo Fuentes, Alejandro Cano, Diana Pérez Custodio, Reyes Oteo, and Sergio Blardony, constantly enriching the 21st-century saxophone repertoire.

 

She is also the artistic director of the Jornadas de Música Contemporánea de Nerja, a Henri Selmer Paris artist, and an ambassador for D’Addario Woodwinds España.
