From a very young age, Martijne van Dijk developed a passion for music.
At only 4 years old, she fell in love with the recorder, thanks to Johann Sebastian Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 4.
She then turned to the piano, and later discovered the saxophone, which became her true instrument of choice.
With the saxophone, the connection was immediate: after only two years of practice, she joined the Brabants Conservatorium in Tilburg.
There she earned her diplomas as a music teacher and performer, while developing a solid musical culture thanks to remarkable teachers such as Ad van Sleuwen, Tijn Vaes, and Martien van Woerkum.
Seeking a purer, brighter, and more transparent sound, Martijne continued her studies in France, where she perfected her skills with two exceptional masters: Jean-Denis Michat in Lyon and Claude Delangle at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris.
She earned her DFS in saxophone and also completed a chamber music program as part of the Axone Saxophone Quartet, alongside Gurvan Péron, Géraud Etrillard, and Cédric Carceles. Together, they studied with renowned musicians such as David Walter, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, and Michel Moraguès, earning a third-cycle degree in chamber music.
Today, Martijne uses her experience to support experienced and motivated saxophonists, helping them become more fulfilling musicians.
She also advises teachers and organizations on pedagogical strategies and the quality of music education.
On stage, she aims to transport her audience, to share emotion, and to reveal the magic of music.
She regularly performs with the Axone Saxophone Quartet, the Ensemble Modern, and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra.
