Baptiste STANEK

Baptiste Stanek, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and saxophonist from France, based in Basel (Switzerland), is a key figure of the Basel music scene.

Co-founder of the Basel Jazz Orchestra, his passion for sound and timbre is evident in his compositions, where he explores new textures and integrates atypical instruments into the jazz universe.

He particularly enjoys writing for large ensembles, from sextets and octets to big bands, pushing sonic boundaries to create unique musical experiences.

An international artist, Baptiste performs regularly in Switzerland, Europe, and South America, collaborating with musicians worldwide and appearing in prestigious festivals and clubs, including in Romania, Belgium, France, Spain, Poland, Uruguay, and Argentina.

During his August 2024 South American tour, he conducted pedagogical workshops at UTEC de Mercedes (Uruguay).

Trained in Strasbourg, he studied classical music and jazz, later graduating in saxophone from the Jazz Campus of Basel. After a Master in pedagogy, he was selected for the Focusyear program, performing alongside major figures like Kendrick Scott, Lionel Loueke, Django Bates, and Chris Cheek, as well as international Focusyear 2024 colleagues.

Active on the European jazz scene, he performed in France and was a member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra (2019–2023). Since 2020, he has led his own trio, releasing the album “Wisdom Tooth” (May 2024), while also participating as sideman in projects across Belgium and Switzerland. His first album, “Extended Techniques” (2021), and second, “Wisdom Tooth” (2024), are available on all platforms. A quintet album is scheduled for May 2025 with LOUMI Records.

Committed to the promotion of jazz and the Basel local scene, Baptiste collaborates with international artists such as Nduduzo Makhathini, Mark Turner, Diego Pinera, Jorge Rossy, Yumi Ito, Song Yi Jeon, Tineke Postma, as well as emerging talents like Tabea Kind, Marta Wajdzik, and Vaclav Palka.

Passionate about wind instruments, he plays all saxophones, Bb and Eb clarinets, bass clarinet, flute, and piccolo, continuously exploring new sonorities.

Baptiste is also recognized for his technical expertise in saxophone construction, collaborating with prestigious brands such as Lupifaro, JLV Sound, and Antigua through endorsement partnerships.

Since 2023, he proudly performs on an Inderbinen saxophone, symbolizing his pursuit of sound excellence and musical performance.
