Diego Vergari earned his saxophone diploma with highest honors at the Conservatorio “N. Piccinni” of Bari under the guidance of M° Fabio Sammarco, then pursued a Master’s at the Conservatorio “G. Rossini” of Pesaro with M° Federico Mondelci, completing it with the maximum grade (110/110), congratulations, and honorable mention.
His training was enriched by numerous masterclasses with internationally renowned saxophonists and musicians, including Claude Delangle, Mario Marzi, Otis Murphy, Federico Mondelci, Arno Bornkamp, Nikita Zimin, Jérôme Laran, Silvio Rossomando, Marco Gerboni, Carlos Ordonez de Arce, Javier Girotto, Gianni Iorio, and Sixto Herrero.
Although his training is primarily classical, Diego explores various musical genres such as jazz and folk music, integrating new sounds to enrich his artistic expression.
For the 2024/2025 academic year, he serves as assistant to M° Sixto Herrero at the CSM of Alicante.
Winner of numerous competitions, he obtained 1st Prize at the FaReMI Competition (Lecce), 2nd Prize at the Il Saxofono Italiano Competition with two special prizes, and 3rd Prize at the Vienna Classical Music Competition.
In 2024, he was selected for the final stage of the prestigious Andorra SaxFest.
As a soloist and chamber musician, Diego regularly performs at major international festivals such as the Locomotive Jazz Festival, Ancona Jazz, Emilia Romagna Festival, Marche Festival, Montesaxonovo Festival, MusicaRiva, Festival delle Nazioni (Rome), Miami International Piano Festival, Lago Maggiore in Musica, and many more.
He also performs for prestigious institutions, including MaMu (Milan), Italian Clarinet Academy (Cesena), and the Italian Saxophone Academy (Ostravetere).
Invited to two consecutive editions of the World Saxophone Congress (Zagreb 2018, Las Palmas 2023), Diego also performed at the 3rd EuroSax Congress (Trento) with two concerts. He regularly collaborates with internationally renowned artists such as Federico Mondelci, Gianni Iorio, Francesco Libetta, Scipione Sangiovanni, and Aylen Pritchin.
In 2018, he founded the Duo SaxCelle with cellist Antonio Aprile and also performs in duo with pianists Christian Greco, Scipione Sangiovanni, and since 2022, with Francesco Libetta.
Since 2021, he has been a member of the Italian Saxophone Orchestra, founded and directed by M° Federico Mondelci.
In 2023, he created the AdriaN Saxophone Quartet, and since 2024, he has joined the AlGoRhythm Ensemble, a saxophone quartet dedicated to the performance of classical and contemporary repertoire as well as the exploration of “Musical Cubism”, an innovative style.
