Kimberly Castrillón, originally from southwest Colombia, earned her Master’s in Saxophone Performance in 2018 at the Universidad del Cauca (Popayán), under the guidance of Sandra Paola Jiménez.
She then pursued advanced studies at the Conservatoire Régional Jacques Thibaud in Bordeaux with Marie-Bernadette Charrier, before obtaining in 2022 a Master’s in Artistic Teaching, Musical Performance, and Research at the Conservatorio Superior de Música Óscar Esplá in Alicante, under the mentorship of M° Sixto Herrero.
Throughout her career, Kimberly has participated in numerous festivals and masterclasses with prominent saxophonists such as Javier Ocampo, Dale Underwood, Arno Bornkamp, Nicolas Prost, Ricardo Capellino, Sara Zazo, Thomas Barthélémy, and the Morphing Quartet.
Winner of prestigious international competitions, she notably earned 1st Prize at the Brasilia International Saxophone Quartet Competition (Ciquasax 2015, Quartet “234”) and 3rd Prize at the Salut International Performing Arts Web Competition (2016).
She has performed at major events, including Concert à la Fontaine at Selmer Paris (2016), PERUSAX (2016, guest of honor with the DA'CORTO Quartet), World Saxophone Congress (Zagreb 2018, Las Palmas 2023), Rencontres Internationales Méditerranée Atlantique du Saxophone (Orthez 2020), Saxornadas 2022 (Vigo, Spain), International Saxophone Stage (Fermo 2023), and the 3rd European Saxophone Congress (Trento 2024).
Kimberly has also contributed to recognized recording projects, including Legado (2016, Symphonic Band of the University of Cauca) and Carnet de voyage (2018, Sax College Nouvelle Aquitaine).
Committed to contemporary creation, she collaborates with composers such as René Ordoñez, Sixto Herrero, Ricardo Monera, Marco Mancini, Lucero Ferney, Rosario de Luca, and Alessio Manega, enriching the saxophone repertoire with new works.
Currently, she is pursuing musical pedagogy studies at the Conservatorio Superior de Música Óscar Esplá and teaches saxophone at the Ciudad de Elche Music School.
She is also an active member of the AlterEgo Saxophone Duo and the AlGoRhythm Ensemble, with whom she develops innovative artistic projects.
