Johann Koh is a saxophonist and educator from Singapore, graduated from the prestigious Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts.
Award-winning at numerous international competitions, he has distinguished himself as a soloist and as a founding member of two prize-winning quartets, achieving success in renowned competitions such as the Fischoff, Coltman, NOLA, Macauley, and NASA Chamber Competition.
During his years at Indiana University, Johann served as president of the IU Saxophone Organization and received the prestigious IU Jacobs Performance Fellowship during his master’s studies.
He has collaborated closely with numerous composers, creating and premiering works for solo saxophone and ensembles, notably with the Blitz Saxophone Quartet.
As a teacher, Johann has shared his passion since 2017 at the Flute and Music Academy, with the Singapore Police Orchestra (2020–2021), as well as through private lessons and workshops for school orchestras.
In the United States, he taught undergraduate students at Indiana University and participated in the Distance Learning Program, providing online lessons to students in underprivileged regions worldwide.
He has also given masterclasses for soloists and quartets, notably at Purdue University Fort Wayne.
From 2017 to 2023, he served as musical director of the Protégé Saxophone Ensemble and has been actively involved in the Singapore Saxophone Symposium.
As a soloist and chamber musician, Johann has collaborated with prestigious orchestras such as the Singapore Philharmonic Orchestra, Nanyang Academy Orchestra, Royal College of Music Orchestra, and the Braddell Heights Symphony Orchestra.
He is also a founding member of the New Meta Quartet and the Blitz Quartet.
With the New Meta Quartet, Johann performed in prestigious venues across China, including Soochow University, Shanghai Conservatory, Harbin Conservatory, and Tianjin Conservatory.
He has represented Singapore at major international events, such as the 1st Asian Saxophone Congress in Chiayi, Taiwan, the 18th World Saxophone Congress in Zagreb, Croatia, and the 20th World Saxophone Congress in Harbin, China.
Convinced of the transformative power of music, Johann aims to help his students express themselves through the saxophone and develop a deeper connection with musical art.
